The United States and China agreed to establish a bilateral communication channel for Artificial Intelligence (AI) incidents and a US-China Super Intelligence Dialogue following talks between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington, D.C. on 25 September 2026. The White House stated that the next exchange under the new dialogue would take place by November 2026.
Artificial Intelligence Incident Communication Channel
The proposed AI incident communication channel is a bilateral mechanism for communication between the United States and China during significant incidents involving advanced AI systems.

The two countries also agreed to establish the US-China Super Intelligence (SI) Dialogue to exchange views on the risks and benefits associated with advanced AI technologies.
The White House stated that the two sides agreed to use the term “super intelligence” rather than “artificial intelligence” for the applicable emerging technologies. The next exchange under the dialogue is scheduled to occur by November 2026.
The dialogue provides a framework for discussing issues related to the development and use of advanced AI systems, including potential risks and the need for appropriate communication between major technology powers.
