ICAR Releases Viksit Krishi Roadmap 2047

Why in News?

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) celebrated its 98th Foundation Day in New Delhi on 16 July 2026 by unveiling the Viksit Krishi and Samruddh Kisan Roadmap under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The roadmap outlines long-term goals to transform Indian agriculture through climate resilience, technological innovation, and greater farmer outreach.

During the event, ICAR also released 43 new crop varieties, 17 agricultural technologies and products, and 14 publications. These initiatives aim to improve farm productivity, sustainability, and food security while enhancing farmers’ incomes.

Key Targets of the Viksit Krishi Roadmap

The roadmap sets ambitious targets to modernise Indian agriculture by 2047.

Major Objectives

• Develop 100 Climate Smart Villages.
• Extend ICAR technologies to 100 million farmers.
• Launch the One Institute-One Grand Innovation initiative.
• Create an Open Digital Knowledge Platform for farmers and researchers.
• Strengthen action against counterfeit seeds and pesticides.
• Generate ₹10,000 crore in internal resources by 2029 through technology commercialisation.

These measures aim to bridge the gap between agricultural research and field-level implementation.
