3rd International Bharat 6G Symposium

The 3rd International Bharat 6G Symposium 2026 was held from 7 to 9 October 2026 at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi. Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated the symposium on 8 October. Organised by the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) alongside the India Mobile Congress 2026, the event focused on international cooperation, research and the development of sixth-generation mobile communication technologies.

What Is 6G and the IMT-2030 Framework?

6G refers to the sixth generation of mobile communication technology, expected to succeed 5G. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) uses the term IMT-2030 for its framework for international mobile telecommunications beyond 5G.

In November 2023, the ITU approved Recommendation ITU-R M.2160-0, establishing the framework and overall objectives for IMT-2030. It provides a foundation for developing future mobile communication systems and coordinating international efforts.

Major areas of 6G research include:

  • AI-native networks: Integrating artificial intelligence into network design and management.
  • Advanced connectivity: Exploring new spectrum and communication technologies.
  • Sustainability: Improving network energy efficiency and environmental performance.
  • Industry applications: Enabling new services across sectors through advanced connectivity.
  • Global standards: Promoting interoperability and international cooperation.

Bharat 6G Alliance: Objectives and Role

The Bharat 6G Alliance brings together stakeholders from Indian industry, academia, research institutions and government to develop the country’s 6G ecosystem. Its activities include research and development, standards development, technology collaboration and international engagement.

The alliance aims to strengthen India’s participation in shaping global telecommunications standards and support the development of future-ready communication technologies.

Five MoUs and Nine White Papers Released

An important outcome of the 8 October inauguration was the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) by the Bharat 6G Alliance with the following organisations:

  • GSMA
  • one6G Association
  • GTI Alliance Ltd
  • 6G Industry Forum (6GIF)
  • VoICE

The alliance also released nine white papers prepared by its working groups. In addition, a joint report titled Progress towards the 6G Principles of the New Delhi Declaration: Actions, Outcomes and Outlook – First Edition, October 2026 was released.

These initiatives are intended to strengthen research collaboration, knowledge sharing and international engagement in the development of 6G technologies.
