Uttar Pradesh–Japan Investment Meet 2026: UP and Yamanashi Sign MoUs
Why in News?
Uttar Pradesh and Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on 21 August 2026 during the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 in Lucknow. The event was organised at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan and focused on strengthening investment, skills, tourism and institutional cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Yamanashi.
A major announcement was a ₹600-crore fund for Yamanashi-based Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) investing in Uttar Pradesh.
Investment Facilitation Framework
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the establishment of a dedicated Yamanashi Desk at Invest UP. The desk will facilitate investor coordination, approvals and resolution of investment-related issues.
The two sides also agreed to a 90-day review mechanism to monitor land allotments and address issues faced by investors.
Areas Covered Under the MoUs
The agreements cover several areas of economic and institutional cooperation:
- Technical training and workforce development
- Skill development and placement
- Tourism and Buddhist tourism
- Japanese Global Capability Centres (GCCs)
- Investment cooperation between Japanese enterprises and Uttar Pradesh
An MoU was also signed between Invest UP and the Technical Training & Research Centre, Kanpur, focusing on workforce development and placement linkages.
Tourism and Legislative Cooperation
The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department signed an MoU with Japanese partners to promote Buddhist tourism and related investment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.
A separate agreement was signed for legislative cooperation between Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana and Yamanashi Prefectural Assembly Chairman Hidenori Miyamoto.
