SEMICON India 2026
Why in News?
The fifth edition of SEMICON India will be held from 17 to 19 September 2026 at Yashobhoomi, the India International Convention & Expo Centre, in Dwarka, New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on 17 September 2026. The conference will bring together semiconductor companies, equipment suppliers, technology firms, and policymakers.
What is SEMICON India 2026?
SEMICON India is a major semiconductor industry conference and exhibition. It connects global semiconductor manufacturers with equipment suppliers, policymakers, researchers, and technology companies.
The 2026 edition is jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and SEMI, the global electronics supply chain industry association.
The official theme is “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem.” It reflects India’s effort to develop capabilities across semiconductor manufacturing, chip design, advanced packaging, and supply chains.
What is the Scale of SEMICON India 2026?
The 2026 edition is expected to have significant international participation.
Key features include:
- 500+ exhibitors.
- More than 290 overseas companies.
- Participation from 40+ countries.
- Six country-focused pavilions.
- Exhibition area of about 18,000 sq m.
- Dedicated 360 sq m workforce development area.
The six country pavilions will represent Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, and the Netherlands.
What is the India Semiconductor Mission?
The India Semiconductor Mission is the nodal programme for developing India’s semiconductor and display ecosystem.
The Union Cabinet has approved ISM 2.0, which expands the policy focus to several strategic areas. These include:
- Semiconductor chip design.
- Semiconductor equipment.
- Materials.
- Semiconductor fabrication.
- Advanced packaging.
- Research and development.
- Manufacturing talent.
The second phase aims to strengthen India’s semiconductor value chain beyond fabrication alone.
Why is SEMICON India Important?
Semiconductors are essential for electronics, automobiles, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, defence systems, and advanced computing.
India’s semiconductor strategy seeks to develop domestic manufacturing and design capabilities. It also aims to reduce supply-chain vulnerabilities and attract global investment.
Officials expect five to six semiconductor projects approved under the first phase of ISM to enter commercial production by the end of 2026.
