QS World University Rankings 2027

Why in News?

The QS World University Rankings 2027 were released in June 2026 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), evaluating more than 1,500 universities across 106 countries and territories. The rankings highlight global academic excellence, research impact, employability, and internationalisation.

Top Universities in the World

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) retained the world’s top position for the 15th consecutive year. Imperial College London and Stanford University jointly secured second place, while the University of Oxford and Harvard University ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

Other notable performers included University College London (UCL), which remained in the global top 10 for the 15th consecutive year and improved to a joint eighth position.

India’s Performance in QS Rankings 2027

India recorded its strongest-ever representation in the QS rankings with 52 institutions featured in the list. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi emerged as India’s highest-ranked institution, securing the 118th position globally.

The rankings also highlighted the growing international recognition of Indian higher education institutions, reflecting improvements in research output, academic reputation, and global engagement.
