NABARD Launches Gramodyam Programme to Promote Rural Entrepreneurship
Why in News?
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) launched Gramodyam on 13 July 2026, marking its 45th Foundation Day. The programme aims to foster rural entrepreneurship by equipping young individuals with the skills, mentoring, and institutional support needed to establish sustainable enterprises in villages and small towns.
Gramodyam Programme Key Highlights
- Gramodyam is a three-year pilot programme targeting the creation of around 4,000 rural entrepreneurs across all States and Union Territories.
- It adopts a digital-first hybrid delivery model, combining online learning with field-based mentoring and capacity building.
- The programme is jointly implemented by NABARD and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
- The Institute for Industrial Development (IID) is responsible for executing the programme on the ground.
Training and Support
Gramodyam provides end-to-end entrepreneurial support through:
- Psychometric assessments and career counselling.
- Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDPs).
- Industry-specific skill training.
- Business mentoring and handholding support.
- Assistance in enterprise establishment, market linkages, and business development.
The programme aims to encourage both farm-based and non-farm rural enterprises, thereby generating employment and strengthening local economies.
