Mountain Guardian 2026
The third edition of the India-UAE joint military exercise, Mountain Guardian 2026, began on 5 October 2026 at the Foreign Training Node in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand. The exercise focuses on enhancing operational coordination and interoperability between the two forces in mountainous terrain.
Mountain Guardian 2026
Mountain Guardian is a bilateral military exercise between the Indian Army and the UAE Land Forces. The 2026 edition is the third iteration of the exercise. The Indian contingent includes personnel from a Bhairav Battalion, while the UAE contingent comprises a Mountain Infantry Battalion. Conducting the exercise in mountainous terrain provides both forces an opportunity to train in an environment different from the desert conditions commonly associated with some India-UAE military exercises.
Training Components
Mountain Guardian 2026 includes a range of operational and tactical activities designed to improve the ability of the two forces to conduct coordinated operations.
Major components include:
- Joint operational planning
- Tactical drills
- Firing practices
- Establishment of surveillance grids
- Drone operations
- Physical endurance training
- Integrated field exercises
Women officers and combatants from both countries are also participating in specialist roles, highlighting the increasing participation of women in military operations and training activities.
India-UAE Defence Cooperation
The exercise expands India-UAE military cooperation beyond desert-focused exercises such as Desert Cyclone. Regular joint exercises provide opportunities for personnel to exchange operational practices, understand each other’s procedures and develop greater interoperability.
India and the UAE have progressively expanded their defence engagement through training exchanges, military exercises and professional interactions across different operational environments.
Mountain Guardian is therefore significant not only as a military training exercise but also as part of India’s broader defence partnership with the UAE.
