India to Host BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting 2026
Why in News?
India will host the BRICS National Security Advisers’ (NSA) Meeting on 22–23 June 2026, chaired by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. The meeting will bring together National Security Advisers and senior security officials from BRICS member countries and serve as a key preparatory event ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026, scheduled in India in September.
Focus Areas of the Meeting
The central theme of the meeting is:
“Non-Traditional Security Challenges Confronting the World Today”
Key discussion areas include:
- Counter-terrorism cooperation
- Cyber security and digital threats
- Security implications of emerging technologies
- Transnational organised crime
- Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) security
- Evolving national security challenges
The delegates will also review the work of BRICS Joint Working Groups on Counter-Terrorism and Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies.
BRICS and Security Cooperation
BRICS is a major intergovernmental grouping comprising:
- Brazil
- Russia
- India
- China
- South Africa
- Iran
Over the years, BRICS has expanded cooperation beyond economic issues to include security coordination, intelligence sharing, cyber governance, and combating terrorism. Counter-terrorism remains one of the most important areas of collaboration within the BRICS security framework.
