Why in News?
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) inaugurated the first edition of the ICAI Global Orbit Summit 2026 in New Delhi on 11 July 2026. The nationwide summit series aims to strengthen India’s leadership in the rapidly expanding Global Capability Centre (GCC) ecosystem by enhancing professional skills, innovation, and global collaboration.
Global Orbit Summit 2026 Key Highlights
- The summit is themed “ICAI Global Orbit: From GCCs to Global Leadership.”
- It was inaugurated by the Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) of ICAI.
- The summit series will subsequently be held in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Chennai through January 2027.
- The initiative focuses on preparing Indian Chartered Accountants for leadership roles in multinational organisations and Global Capability Centres.
What are Global Capability Centres (GCCs)?
Global Capability Centres (GCCs), also known as Global In-house Centres (GICs) or Captive Centres, are offshore units established by multinational corporations to deliver specialized business services such as:
- Finance and Accounting
- Information Technology (IT)
- Research & Development (R&D)
- Artificial Intelligence and Analytics
- Human Resources
- Customer Support
- Engineering and Digital Services
India has emerged as one of the world’s largest GCC destinations due to its skilled workforce, robust digital infrastructure, and cost competitiveness.
According to recent estimates:
- India hosts more than 2,100 GCCs.
- These centres employ nearly 2.36 million professionals.
- They generate approximately USD 100 billion in annual revenue.
ICAI’s Role in the GCC Ecosystem
Established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is the statutory body responsible for regulating the chartered accountancy profession in India.
Through the Global Orbit Summit, ICAI seeks to:
- Promote professional mobility of Chartered Accountants.
- Build expertise in digital technologies and data analytics.
- Strengthen cross-border financial and regulatory competencies.
- Prepare professionals for leadership positions in multinational enterprises and GCCs.
