Handloom Hackathon 2026
Why in News?
The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) under the Ministry of Textiles launched the Handloom Hackathon 2026, titled “Weaving Innovation”, on 8 July 2026. The national innovation challenge is being organised as part of the National Handloom Day 2026 celebrations to encourage innovative solutions for India’s handloom sector.
Handloom Hackathon 2026: Key Highlights
- The hackathon promotes technology, product design, digital integration, entrepreneurship, and sustainable innovations for the handloom industry.
- Online registration opened on 1 July 2026 and will continue till 20 July 2026 through the Youth Ideathon platform.
- Participation is open to students, startups, designers, technologists, entrepreneurs, researchers, and handloom weavers.
Themes and Awards
The competition is organised around four major themes:
- Innovation in Design & Operations
- Market Access & Digital Integration
- Sustainability & Environmental Impact
- Weaver Livelihoods & Financial Inclusion
The Grand Finale will be held on 1 August 2026 at the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi.
The total prize pool is ₹4 lakh, with ₹60,000 awarded to winners and ₹40,000 to runners-up under each theme. Top finalists will also receive one-year incubation support to further develop their innovations.
