Exercise Tiger Lightning 2026

Exercise Tiger Lightning 2026, an annual bilateral military exercise between Bangladesh and the United States, began on 19 July 2026. The 13-day exercise will continue until 31 July 2026 and involves more than 160 military personnel from both countries.

The exercise is conducted between the Bangladesh Army and the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC). It aims to improve military cooperation, operational coordination, and interoperability between the armed forces of the two countries.

What is Exercise Tiger Lightning?

Tiger Lightning is a bilateral military exercise focused on improving joint operational capabilities through specialised field training.

The exercise was first launched in 2017. It later faced a temporary interruption during the COVID-19 pandemic before resuming as part of regular Bangladesh-US defence cooperation.

Key Training Areas

The 2026 edition focuses on:

• Jungle operations – Training soldiers to operate effectively in dense forest environments.
• Counter-terrorism operations – Developing coordinated responses to terrorism-related threats.
• Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) – Providing emergency medical treatment to injured personnel in combat situations.
• Joint tactical planning and field operations.
• Improving interoperability between participating forces.

Such training helps military personnel exchange operational knowledge and develop common procedures for complex security situations.

Venue and Participation

The opening ceremony of Exercise Tiger Lightning 2026 was held at the Para Commando Brigade in Jalalabad Cantonment, Sylhet, Bangladesh.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen and Lieutenant General Md Mainur Rahman, Chief of General Staff of the Bangladesh Army.

The exercise reflects continued defence engagement between Bangladesh and the United States. It also strengthens professional exchanges and military preparedness in the wider Indo-Pacific region.
