Why in News?

An Indian Army contingent participated in the opening ceremony of Exercise Khaan Quest 2026 in Mongolia. The multinational military exercise is being conducted from 20 June to 3 July 2026 and focuses on enhancing capabilities for United Nations peacekeeping operations in a multinational environment.

About Exercise Khaan Quest 2026

Exercise Khaan Quest is an annual multinational military exercise hosted by Mongolia. It aims to prepare participating armed forces for United Nations Peace Support Operations (PSOs) and improve interoperability among militaries operating under UN mandates.

The exercise began in 2003 as a bilateral exercise between the United States and Mongolian Armed Forces and was expanded into a multinational peacekeeping exercise in 2006. The 2026 edition marks the 23rd iteration of the exercise.

Participation in 2026

  • 18 countries are participating.
  • India has deployed a 40-member contingent.
  • The Indian team includes personnel from a battalion of the JAT Regiment along with soldiers from other Arms and Services.

Training and Operational Focus
