2nd BRICS Tourism Working Group Meeting 2026
The 2nd BRICS 2026 Tourism Working Group Meeting is being held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on 19–20 August 2026 under India’s BRICS Chairship. The meeting is hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The BRICS Tourism Ministers’ Meeting will subsequently be held in Jaipur on 21–22 August 2026. The meeting forms part of India’s tourism cooperation agenda under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
BRICS Tourism Working Group
The BRICS Tourism Working Group (TWG) is a preparatory mechanism for cooperation in tourism among BRICS countries. Working Group discussions help develop common priorities and proposals before consideration at the ministerial level. The tourism track provides a platform for cooperation on areas such as tourism promotion, sustainable tourism, skills, technology, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.
India’s Tourism Priorities
India has identified four major thematic priorities for BRICS tourism cooperation in 2026:
- Artificial Intelligence and Tourism
- Sustainability and Responsible Tourism
- Tourism Skilling and Capacity Building
- Tourism Exchanges and Seamless Travel Facilitation
These priorities were introduced during the 1st BRICS Tourism Working Group Meeting, held virtually on 25 May 2026.
Artificial Intelligence in Tourism
Artificial Intelligence can support the tourism sector through:
- Personalised travel planning.
- Destination management.
- Tourism forecasting and analytics.
- Digital visitor services.
- Language and information assistance.
India’s focus on AI reflects the increasing role of technology in improving tourism experiences and destination management.
Sustainable and Responsible Tourism
The sustainability component focuses on tourism that balances economic benefits with environmental conservation and community interests. Responsible tourism can help reduce pressure on natural resources, protect cultural heritage and increase benefits for local communities.
Tourism Skilling and Capacity Building
Tourism is an employment-intensive sector. Cooperation among BRICS countries on hospitality skills, workforce development, training and capacity building can help improve service quality and employment opportunities.
Seamless Travel Facilitation
The fourth priority focuses on improving tourism exchanges and travel facilitation between BRICS countries. Improved connectivity, streamlined travel procedures, and stronger tourism cooperation can encourage greater people-to-people interaction and tourism flows.
Continuity from the First Meeting
The 1st BRICS Tourism Working Group Meeting was held virtually on 25 May 2026 under India’s BRICS Chairship. It served as an introductory and preparatory meeting for the tourism agenda. The Jaipur meeting represents the next stage of discussions, with the tourism agenda moving from initial consultations towards more substantive cooperation. The BRICS Tourism Ministers’ Meeting on 21–22 August 2026 will provide the ministerial-level platform for further deliberations.
Jaipur and Tourism Diplomacy
Jaipur provides an important cultural and heritage setting for the BRICS tourism discussions. The city is internationally recognised for its historic urban heritage and is associated with major attractions such as Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Amber Fort. The use of Jaipur as the venue also highlights India’s emphasis on heritage tourism, cultural exchange and destination promotion as components of tourism diplomacy.
