Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate 75 redeveloped railway stations across 20 states on 17 July 2026 under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). The main event will be anchored from Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station in Punjab, which has been redeveloped at a cost of ₹125 crore.

The inauguration marks another milestone in India’s railway modernisation programme. The scheme aims to transform railway stations into world-class transport hubs while preserving their local heritage and improving passenger convenience.

What is the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was launched by the Ministry of Railways in December 2022. It focuses on the long-term redevelopment of more than 1,338 railway stations across the country through a phased approach.

  • Lifts and escalators.
  • Modern waiting halls and executive lounges.
  • CCTV surveillance and free Wi-Fi.
  • Digital passenger information systems.
  • Barrier-free access for persons with disabilities.

Stations Covered in the July 2026 Phase

The July 2026 inauguration includes stations from multiple states.

Some prominent stations are:

  • Hi-Tech City (Telangana)
  • Modi Nagar (Delhi)
  • Alnavar, Badami, Bantwal, and Koppal (Karnataka)

Earlier, on 16 July 2026, Kerala inaugurated six redeveloped stations, including Tirur, Thalassery, Parappanangadi, Nilambur Road, Chalakudy, and Angamaly for Kalady.
