Delhi witnessed one of its biggest narcotics crackdowns as the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Delhi Police Special Cell seized 329 kg of methamphetamine worth ₹262 crore. The coordinated raid, codenamed Operation Crystal Fortress, exposed a large transnational drug cartel using the capital as a major distribution centre.
Major Seizure and Arrests Tracking the Drug Network
The seizure was executed on 20 November at a residence in Chattarpur, South Delhi, following intelligence alerts and technical surveillance.
Key arrests include:
- Shane Waris (Uttar Pradesh)
- Esther Kinimi (Nagaland)
Both accused allegedly worked as critical intermediaries responsible for the storage and distribution of the narcotics through urban networks.
How the Drug Syndicate Operated
Investigators revealed a sophisticated setup built to evade enforcement agencies:
- Layer-based handlers and insulated communication routes
- Encrypted messaging apps and fake SIM cards
- Use of temporary rented accommodations and logistics middlemen
- On-ground deliveries through hired riders to avoid authorities
The structure was designed to prevent any single courier from understanding the full supply chain.
Foreign Links and Deepening International Investigation
The seized consignment is believed to be tied to a foreign-based kingpin, who is already wanted in connection with an 83-kg cocaine seizure last year.
Preliminary findings indicate:
- Delhi is emerging as a transit hub for synthetic drugs
- The network facilitated domestic circulation as well as global trafficking routes
- Agencies have started coordinating with international enforcement units to locate the mastermind and collapse linked networks
