India is taking a major step toward modernising its land administration systems as the Department of Land Resources prepares to host a National Symposium on NAKSHA and LandStack on 3 December 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event, organised under GeoSmart India 2025, will gather experts, technologists and state officials to shape the future of digital property rights and urban land mapping in the country.
Reviewing the NAKSHA Pilot for Urban Land Mapping
The symposium will highlight progress under NAKSHA, a pilot programme that employs aerial surveys, drone imagery and AI-based feature extraction to generate accurate 3D property maps across 157 cities.
Sessions will address:
- Challenges in mapping high-density urban zones
- Alignment of geospatial outputs with legacy cadastral records
- Ensuring property boundary precision for legal and taxation workflows
Officials are expected to release new operational guidelines for wider national rollout post-pilot evaluation.
Strengthening LandStack as a Nationwide Digital Ecosystem
LandStack — envisioned as India’s integrated digital land governance stack — will be another key focus. The model seeks to unify:
- Cadastral and geospatial data
- Ownership and title records
- Registrations, mutations and regulatory permissions
This federated architecture, aligned with national standards, aims to ensure seamless data exchange across states, ULBs, revenue departments and service platforms.
UrPro Card: Toward a Single Digital Property Document
A feature session will discuss the adoption of the UrPro Card (Urban Property Card) — a secure, digitally verifiable ownership document.
Expected outcomes include:
- Integration of UrPro Cards with property registration and mutation systems
- Linkage to property taxation, planning approvals, and financial services
- Legal harmonisation across states for digital title transfer
Experts believe UrPro Cards can reduce property-related disputes and unlock easier access to credit through authenticated property titles.
