The focus is on forestry, wildlife conservation, and environmental sciences. The specialised institution will be set up in Gorakhpur, eastern Uttar Pradesh. This location is a departure from expectations of a metro-based location. It reinforces the state’s focus on region-based ecological development.

The proposed forest university will be developed on a 125-acre campus in Gorakhpur. It will be close to the Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre. This region is already associated with biodiversity conservation and wildlife protection.

  • Detailed Project Report (DPR) to follow, triggering tendering and construction

Once operational, the university is expected to emerge as a national centre of excellence in forestry education and research.
