Different types of explosives

Types of Explosives: Explosives are substances that produce a large amount of heat energy and loud sound when fired. Some of the explosives are as follows-

1. Dynamite-

Dynamite was invented by Alfred Nobel in 1863. It is prepared by absorbing Nitroglycerine into some neutral absorbent like wood dust. Sodium Nitrate is used in place of Nitroglycerine in modern dynamite.

2. TNT-

Full form of TNT is Trinitrotoluene. It is a light yellow solid matter prepared by reacting Toluene with Sulphuric Acid and Nitric Acid. It was discovered in1863.

3. TNG-

Full form TNG is Trinitroglyceron. It is a colourless liquid, also known as Nobel Oil. It is used in forming dynamite.

4. TNP-

full form of TNP is Trinitrophenol. It is also called Picric Acid. TNP was formed by reacting Phenol with concentrated Nitric Acid. It is a light yellow, crystalline solid and very explosive.

5. RDX (Research and Development Explosive)-

Its chemical name is cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine. It is also called Plastic explosive. It is also known as Cyclonite in the USA, Hexogen in Germany, and T.4 in Italy.

6. Gun Powder-

It is known as the modern explosive. Roger Bacon discovered Gun Powder. It is a 15:3:2 mixture of Potassium or Sodium nitrite, Charcol and Sulphur

7. Amatols-

It is a fast explosive. It is formed by mixing Ammonium nitrate and TNT in varying ratios.

8. Baratols-

It was obtained by mixing Barium nitrate and TNT. Often it is called Hand Grenade and used in anti-tank mines.

9. PETN (Pentaerythrityltetramine)-

It is a very sensitive explosive. TNT or wax is added to it to decrease its sensitivity. Most of its characteristics are similar to that of RDX.

10. PLX (Picatine Liquid Explosive)-

It is a very dangerous explosive. It is formed by combining Nitromethane and Ethylenediamine. Not even the use of this colourless, odourless dangerous explosive. Generally, even the detectors fail to detect it.
