Current Affairs are one of the most important parts of almost all Government Job Exams. Whether it is UPSC, SSC, RBI, NABARD, SEBI, UPPSC, BPSC, or any other Examination, this section covers a significant portion of the syllabus. Most of the time, Current Affairs play a vital role in Candidates’ final selection for Government jobs.

What kind of topics are asked in Current Affairs?

Current Affairs are vast in their scope and can be asked from any kind of affairs around. The main focus is however on important International Affairs of significance and National Affairs that are very important. Other areas include Art and Culture space, important days, important conventions, meetings and decisions of International Groups and Forums like the United Nations, World Trade Organization, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Economic Forum, G7, G20, BRICS, ASEAN, SAARC, etc., sports, festivals, defence news, scientific discoveries and advancement in technology, appointments, and terminations, etc. However, examiners tend to limit the scope and depth of the knowledge being asked, Scope and depth of Current Affairs also vary from exam to exam. 

What are the Sources for Current Affairs?

Current Affairs are gathered from various sources, the most important being the NEWSPAPERS. Newspapers cover a major portion of the topics asked in the exams. One Can prepare this section by daily reading and making notes from leading Newspapers like The Hindu, The Indian Express, Times of India, The Economic Times, etc. Other sources for it can be Press Information Bureau website updates, Yojana and Kurukshetra magazines, Science Reporter magazine, Economic and Political Weekly Magazine, Rajya Sabha TV discussions, All India Radio Broadcasts, and important organizations’ website updates, etc.

How to prepare for Current Affairs?

It is very tricky to get an optimum preparation level when it comes to Current Affairs. One way is to browse all important sources daily and make notes of important topics and revise them periodically. This method of preparation, however, is very tedious and time-consuming. Also, there are chances of missing a few of the important news.

Another way for preparing this section is to get Monthy magazines that are prepared by Coaching Centers. This way you can get access to all important information without wandering much into the dark.
